Digging into the authentic history of the Igbos

IGBO-UKWU; The IGBO CRADLE is a paradigmatic shift, presented to the world at a time Igbo people are conscious of the fact that they have not got a definite account of their origin or source region, a time when they are at a crossroads of their history, much of which is based on personal formulations that border on the ridiculous. To address the questions, the current work on Igbo-Ukwu has adopted a more scientific and evidence based approach. Archaeological, geographical, demographical, cultural, traditional, social, palynological, historical and linguistic evidences are unearthed and widely used.

IGBO-UKWU traces Igbo origin within Igbo heartland. It out-rightly refutes the Western Filter paradigm which for a long period created and sustained the rather subjective impression that Igbo origin was outside Igboland, thus giving life to the inglorious Eastern Filter hypothesis which denies Africans of all original achievements. The book is, therefore, a challenge to what was assumed, and, of course, a revelation of what is. It heralds a new dawn in the research on Igbo History.

Its 24 chapters, with a wide range of topics, from the most ancient to the most modern, on Igbo-Ukwu and the Igbo race in general among which are the origin and antiquity, settlement pattern and dispersal, medicine, science and technology, environmental and ecological management, cosmology, social system, leisure and labour and so forth.

The author, Obikwelu Humphrey Akaolisa, PhD, (Philosophy and Ethics) and the many scholars who contributed to the work, have a case for labelling Igbo-Ukwu as the fons et origo of the Igbo nation. Grab it, identify with it or find reasons to do otherwise.
