The New Yam Festival is an annual event in the Igbo-Ukwu Culture in particular and Igboculture in general. On 2nd of August 2024, HRH IGWE ALEXANDER AZIKE ONEDIBE IDU 3 OF IGBO-UKWU, the three quarter Chiefs Chief Mike Nduka (Oji 3 of Igbo-Ukwu) Chief Onyeka Nnabugwu (Alor 2 of Igbo-Ukwu) Chief Nnamdi Ifeakor (Odu 3 of Igbo-Ukwu), the entire Idu Cabinet, merit Chiefs, Nze na ozos and Umuada of Igbo-Ukwu ancient Archeological kingdom turned out in symbolic regalia to celebrate the 2024 annual new yam festival. Traditional dances and masquerades took to the streets of Igbo-Ukwu in a vibrant display of rich cultural heritage and acrobatics to mark the 2024 New Yam Festival which is a key part of the tradition of Igbo-Ukwu people in southeastern Nigeria. This traditional spectacle is part of the annual New Yam Festival that marks the beginning and end of the farming season in Igbo land.it was a celebration of life, common accomplishments, shared culture, and the community’s well-being. The ceremony began with a collective prayer by His Royal Highness, followed by the community partaking of freshly harvested yam. Igbo-ukwu stakeholders pay a courtesy visit to the Anambra state governor Some members of Igbo-Ukwu Stakeholders, yesterday, 4th of August, paid a courtesy visit to the governor of Anambra State,Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo,CFR at the state’s Government House in Awka, Anambra State. The visit which was led by the first Executive Governor of Anambra State, His Excellency,Okwadike Dr. Chukwuemeka Ezeife, was to officially congratulate the governor as a community on his election and assumption of office as the 7th governor of Anambra State, to declare the community’s support for his administration and not to forget Igbo-Ukwu in the scheme of things.
